PLATFORM

The guiding structure of our political positions

GOVERNANCE

  1. We affirm our belief in government of, by, and for the people.
  2. We support balancing individual rights with the common good.
  3. We believe that government at all levels should be accountable, transparent, and open.
  4. We affirm our belief in the separation of Church and State, while respecting all faiths.
  5. We encourage effective communication and cooperation among the governing bodies of Teton County; Victor, Driggs and Tetonia; the surrounding counties in Idaho and Wyoming; and the State of Idaho.
  6. We support long-term planning that reflects sound economic and environmental practices and the generally accepted principles of Smart Growth.
  7. We recognize the Comprehensive Plan as the guiding document for Teton County government and support full and equitable participation during its updating so that it will reflect the vision and consensus of Teton County residents.
  8. We support the creation and enforcement of ordinances that implement the vision of the County and City Comprehensive Plans.
  9. We support keeping core commercial development within the city limits of Victor, Driggs, and Tetonia and are opposed to commercial development in the rural county outside of the cities’ Areas of Impact.
  10. We encourage the county to develop policies and incentives to deal with obsolete and partially built subdivisions.

HEALTH, SAFETY, & WELFARE

  1. We support an updated county transportation plan and adequate funding to implement that plan.
  2. We support pathways and other measures that will encourage safe walking, cycling, and other non-motorized travel within and between the cities, residential areas, and schools.
  3. We support efforts to increase awareness of existing public transportation and expand those services within and beyond Teton County.
  4. We support an educated, experienced, and effective Law Enforcement staff that treats everyone fairly and equally.
  5. We support the need for ongoing affordable housing in Teton County.
  6. We support a management and financial program that will support the success of Teton Valley Health Care.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

  1. We champion equal treatment for all citizens and oppose discrimination based on ethnic background, age, religion, disabilities, gender, or sexual orientation.
  2. We encourage citizens to be actively engaged in State and National issues by communicating their concerns to their elected representatives in the State Legislature and in Congress.

ECONOMY

  1. We support the expansion and diversification of our economic base in an effort to create jobs and revitalize our economy.
  2. We are committed to economic, social, and environmental sustainability.
  3. We support wages that are in keeping with local costs of living and will attract quality applicants.
  4. We believe that Teton Valley’s natural resources are a fundamental driver of Teton County’s economy.
  5. We are committed to realistic assessment and mitigation of development’s fiscal impacts.

EDUCATION

  1. We support high quality public education, knowing that an educated citizenry is essential to a democratic society and a vibrant economy.
  2. We know that good teachers are the backbone of a good education and support efforts to retain and recruit highly qualified teachers.
  3. We support local supplemental levies when other education funding is not adequate to provide a quality education.
  4. .We support more community options for adult education.

ENVIRONMENT

  1. We value a working rural landscape and meaningful, adequate open space.
  2. We support recycling and other waste management programs to reduce landfill waste and to encourage better resource management.
  3. We support maintaining access to public lands, including stream and river beds.
  4. We support conservation of natural resources in Teton County, including wildlife, native vegetation, free-flowing waterways, groundwater, and wetlands.
  5. We support the development and implementation of alternative energy sources and energy conservation.
