MIKE WHITFIELD
Commissioner, District 2
http://www.mikefortetoncounty.com/
Mike Whitfield was first elected a County Commissioner for Teton County in 2020. He is a retired conservation biologist and has published scientific research on bighorn sheep, bald eagles, and other species. Some of Mike’s local volunteer roles have been with the local Sportsman's Club, 4-H, ski patrol, first aid, hospice, CTV, TVTAP, VARD, the Hospital Board, forming the Community Foundation, and serving on county land use planning committees.
Through Mike’s nonprofit work, he learned how to start, grow and manage businesses. He was the founding Board President and then 17-year Executive Director of the Teton Regional Land Trust, which employs 11 local staff. Later he served a decade as Executive Director of the Heart of the Rockies Initiative, an international land trust partnership, where he was able to convene people with diverse interests around shared goals.
Mike’s first term as a County Commissioner has been an incredible learning experience. Now he wishes to fully apply that on-the-job training to serve our Teton County community for a second term.
