CINDY RIEGEL
County Commissioner DISTRICT 1
I am Cindy Riegel, Chair of the Board of County Commissioners and I have served as one of your County Commissioners for nearly a decade. A lot has changed since my first campaign! I am grateful for all of the support I receive from committed volunteers in the Teton County Democratic Party.
I plan to win one more local election this November, and I am looking forward to finishing up critical work on behalf of our community. This includes traffic and safety improvements along Highway 33, better wildlife and natural resource protections, more housing opportunities for locals, and incentives for farmers and ranchers to keep farming and ranching here. I will also continue to ensure growth at Grand Targhee Resort in Wyoming does not over burden Idaho taxpayers.
As you all know, Teton County is a unique community in Eastern Idaho. We are culturally and ecologically diverse. The recreational opportunities are endless. We have an amazing farmers market and a thriving local food and beverage industry. Our music and arts scene is world class. This makes Teton County a desirable place for tourists, retirees, remote workers, second homeowners, and short-term rental businesses. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult for locals to live here and for the County to keep up with the costs of growth.
I have proposed legislation that would authorize counties in Idaho to collect a two percent lodging tax. If passed, it would generate over $700,000 a year in revenue for Teton County that could be used for law enforcement, transportation infrastructure, and/or recreation management. It would also help support affordable housing projects initiated by the Teton County Joint Housing Authority. I have gained bipartisan support for this legislation from County Commissioners and State Legislators across Idaho and will work hard to ensure that it passes during the 2025 legislative session.
I love campaign season! Talking to community members face-to-face at their front doors provides valuable insight into individual and collective community concerns. I also love sharing my knowledge about local government in Idaho and hearing your creative solutions to the challenges that our growing valley faces. EMMA RAY
CANDIDATE for County Commissioner DISTRICT 3
I’m Emma Ray and I’m so excited to be your newest candidate for Teton County Commissioner.
I’m a former Teton High School teacher, current board member of Teton Valley Housing and Teton Valley Community Recycling, a Farmer’s Market hand for a local farm, and a full-time mom to my two-year-old daughter, Poppy. You may also remember me from the library, where a volunteer program my husband Tucker and I started in 2015 blossomed into the beloved Makerspace!
I’m running to help Teton Valley stay a strong, rural community. We’re strongest when our workforce has housing, families have the care they need, and businesses thrive. We need to respect our rural roots and protect our local food, water, and wildlife. I also want to help more people understand how local government touches their lives and how they can get involved.
This community deserves county commissioners who have the time and energy to do the job right. I’m already committed to this mindset during my campaign. I’m available to spend time with anyone who may want to get to know me better or get involved in my campaign–as long as you don’t mind my two-year-old joining us!
Please visit my website, emmarayfortetoncounty.com, to learn more about me, reach out to me directly, or donate to my campaign. I have a lot of work to do, and every contribution helps. Donations can be made online here, or checks can be made out to Emma Ray for Teton County and sent to PO Box 68, Tetonia ID 83452, or reach out and we can coordinate a time for me to pick it up from you.
Thank you and see you around the valley this summer!

JOSEPH MESSERLY
CANDIDATE FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE, DIStrict 35 SEAT A
My name is Joseph Messerly and I am your candidate for the Idaho legislature District 35 Seat A. I grew up in and love Eastern Idaho and believe it is now time to give back to the communities that helped me become the person I am today.
My priorities for this campaign range from protecting our younger generation’s ability to vote to helping them find and afford an Idaho education after they graduate from high school. I cannot sit by while places like libraries are attacked. I cannot sit by while our health care system is under the threat of being gutted. We have many towns, cities, and counties that aren’t just built around farming and ranching, but also tourism and mining. We need representatives that understand the diversity in our economy and want it to work for the residents of Districts 35.
I’ll end this note by asking you to visit our website and donate to my campaign. Here is the link: https://www.messerly4idaho.org. Idaho needs more elected Democrats and in East Idaho that starts with Teton County! Thank you in advance for your support, and please reach out to me with any questions/advice.

MAGGIE SHAW
CANDIDATE FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE, DIStrict 35 SEAT B
I'm Maggie Shaw. I've lived in the Intermountain West since the late 70's, first in Utah and now I call Idaho home.
I am a retired former neuroscience laboratory manager at the University of Utah and special educator. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Wilkes University and a Masters in Education from the University of Utah. With my husband, a registered nurse, I retired to Driggs, Idaho, where I enjoy camping, hiking, and equestrian activities. Having spent 40 years in Utah prior to relocating, I chaired a community organization in Salt Lake City aimed at enhancing neighborhood safety and providing input for development projects.
The most important characteristics for an elected official are common sense, honesty and strong problem-solving abilities. The ability to talk to a wide range of individuals and the ability to listen are also of utmost importance. I am a hard worker and pride myself on rarely losing my sense of humor. I am well organized and if something does not feel right, I have no problem saying no. I am not beholden to any groups or PACS. I am only concerned with the opinions of my constituency. Being transparent in all interactions and keeping constituents informed in matters that impact their lives is a top priority.
I advocate for data-driven decision-making and strongly support public education. Additionally, I am an advocate for women’s autonomy in healthcare decisions, believing that such matters should be free from government interference. I also strongly support the preservation of public lands, emphasizing the importance of keeping them accessible to the taxpaying public.
Feel free to drop me a line at [email protected] or come visit my website https://maggie4house.univer.se and Facebook page at Campaign Facebook Page.
